Everyone, The long awaited track repair is under way. Today we started cutting away the cracks in the racing surface. We will be at the track again tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM continuing to remove the bad sections. Tentatively we will be poring concrete next weekend if all goes well. Anyone eager to see a better surface is asked to come help out. Due to the repair there will be no practice until at least the weekend of April 12th & 13th. Due to this we are looking at rescheduling the first two races to another date. Keep posted to this thread for further announcements.

I understand the board is planning on using concrete to repair the track. Is this really the best option?
I think the board needs to re-evaluate their intended track repair method. If the board performs their due diligence I think they may find that the difference in cost is not as much as they may think. The money and effort they throw at these repairs is a roll of the dice and a gamble at best. Why not do it right the first time?
Please take the time to investigate the option of repairing the track with “hot mix” asphalt. Here is an estimate of “hot mix” required to perform these repairs. The first one is an exaggerated estimate of worst case. The second is a more realistic estimate. #1 ~ 30’(length) X 2’ (width) X 3” (thickness) = 1.125 Tons per crack X 40 (cracks) = 45 Tons (hot mix) This would make the worst case scenario of 45 (tons) X $66/ton = $2970 for hot mix.
#2 ~ 25’(length) X 1.5’ (width) X 3” (thickness) = .73 Tons per crack X 40 (cracks) = 29.2 Tons (hot mix) This would make an estimate of 30 (tons) X $66/ton = $1980 for hot mix. These are just estimates… however an accurate number would be easy to calculate by measuring the actual length, width and depth of each crack and doing the math. There would be added expense for tack and a roller or plate packer estimated at about $500 - $700.
It is up to the board to do what they think is best for the SKRA and the county facility.
Good luck…!

Anonymous Poster,
Thank you for your opinion. This has been under discussion since November of last year. When it was determined that the expense of the new surface would be our of our reach. The board determined this would be the best and easiest way to repair the track. The time to talk about this has long since past. With the exception of a FEW volunteers, the board is the only ones making this happen. Everyone has an opinion, but before you criticize the efforts of others, I urge you to come put yourself in their shoes and pick up a shovel.

I don't see that post as someone criticizing the board of there efforts or efforts of others I see that as someone that sounds like they have done some research and was asking why you decided to go with concrete other then hot mix
