I am now retired and trying to decide what form of racing I'd like take up. I am a life long racer in many formulas including karting. I karted most of my life starting in the old Mac 8 days. I have not raced anything for awhile. I would like to see what classes are running and talk to someone about options to get started.
thanks Cal I am checking past posts.
I think I posted this before in the wrong place, sorry.

Cal,
Thanks for the interest. You have a few ways to go in the Sr. classes.
World Formula - Always a popular class. LO206 - The up and coming class. We had a few drivers last year that should be back this year. Tag - It looks like we may have several new driver in this class this season. Check out the PRD rebate deal, you can't beat the price for the package. Shifter - I believe this may be making a come back. I have received a few calls from new drivers.

Thanks for the response. I have run a little shifter awhile back, I think I want to slow down a bit. Never tried 4 stroke, I was primarily a 2 cycle reed valve guy. The Tag looks good but maybe still a tad too fast, I'll have to check them out. Also the ability to not have to spend all week wrenching is important. What is the fastest 4 stroke class. 1. When will there be karts down at the track? 2. What kart shop do the locals use?
Thanks CAl

No problem. The World Formula is by far the fastest 4 Cycle Class. We are having our annual track clean up in a few weeks. March 19th and 20th. We will then open the track the following weekend for Practice. Keep an eye on the website for the practice schedule, I'm hoping to have it posted next week. As for a kart shop, there isn't one local... but there are a few over on the coast. Everyone seems to have their favorite. Check out the link's page for a list of the bigger ones.

We (Midnight Motorsports) are the closest "shop" to you, but we operate mostly as track side support. However, we can get most anything you need and are always getting more in stock. The WF is a great package, unfortunately it seems to be on the decline with the growth of the LO206 package. That does mean that there are plenty of good WF's available for sale. If you need a full setup we can help you there with great new and used karts available.

Thanks Ricky Where are you located. I would like to speak with you. I plan on checking a few shops and support out. Always been a two cycle guy, But it looks like 4 stroke may be easier, but you never know.

We are located in the Tri-Cities, a bit of a jaunt from Spokane for sure but closer than Seattle. If you want simple, 4 cycle is the best place the be, especially LO206. They are not exceptionally fast, but the racing is tight and becomes a bit of of chess match on track. I personally run the PRD Tim spoke of, but also dabble in the 206 from time to time and it's good fun and seems to be growing fast at least down here. Tires on a 206 last at least half a season and most times longer. Maintenance on a 206 is mostly changing the oil every weekend, and the occasional valve lash check is a good idea (super easy). Feel free to call anytime, either myself or my brother Chris will pick up.
Also, if you would like to give a (modern) kart a try we have arrive and drive packages available as well. I'm sure Tim could probably help you out there as well.

Sorry about that Rickey, I always forget about you. You need a web store!
Cal, I will have my World Formula and PRD Kart at the first few practices. You are more then welcome to give them a few laps. But, I can tell you once you drive the PRD you won't want the 4 stroke!

Tim The more research I do the more I think your right. Ill take you up your offer. The 206 package looks like fun, but looks slow. The WF class looks better but I remember those 4 stroke guys always blueprinting, refreshing, and tinkering a lot, so if I'm going to do that why not go tag or PRD. Cost does add in a little because I don't normally like used. Although if I did 206 for a bit just to get the feel of your club I might consider used, then again Id end up with a new kart if I moved up. While I've raced all my life I got older some how and now that I'm retired maybe my brain is ahead of my body reflexes. (Its not supposed to be for fun is it? LOL) I think I need to put some pricing together and maybe that helps, but sometimes slow is a no go. Hope to meet you soon.
thanks cal

Well there's a new twist, seems my 25 year old daughter wants to possibly race also, she's a pretty good driver. That may change how I look at classes. We either race in the same class or split up. We're considering 206, WF, or PRD. There goes the budget!
Calhow many gals are in the club racing.

I can't speak for SKRA, but in Tri-Cities we typically have at least a few women who drive, but there are several younger girls that race.
Your budget is definitely going up with two karts, but the more the merrier. I would recommend if possible to try and have the same karts as this will make chassis tuning more consistent even if you have different engine packages. Just easier to learn how work on one brand than two.
